New Local Planning Schemes and Strategies for Karratha, Greater Geraldton and Exmouth

08 Oct 2015

TBB is well versed in the preparation of Strategies and Schemes, and in particular, is involved in several projects that are underway in Karratha, Greater Geraldton and Exmouth.

Importantly, these have been prepared in the knowledge of the new Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015, and will be some of the newest Schemes prepared under the new deemed and model scheme text provisions.

TBB has lead project teams in the preparation of the Shire of Exmouth’s Local Planning Strategy and Local Planning Scheme No. 4; City of Greater Geraldton’s Local Planning Strategy and Local Planning Scheme No. 1, and the City of Karratha’s Local Planning Strategy.

Exmouth’s Strategy and Scheme have been adopted by the Council for advertising. The Scheme was referred to the Environmental Protection Authority and a determination to not assess was made within days. The Scheme and Strategy have been forwarded to the Western Australian Planning Commission. Advertising is anticipated to be commenced within the fourth quarter of 2015.

Greater Geraldton’s Strategy and Scheme were advertised during 2015, with 38 submissions received. The Scheme and Strategy have been adopted by the Council and forwarded for approval of the Strategy by the Western Australian Planning Commission and the Scheme by the Minister for Planning.

Karratha’s Strategy has been adopted by the Council and referred to the Western Australian Planning Commission for consent to advertise. It is anticipated that the Strategy will be finalised in the 2015-2016 financial year. TBB assisted the City in re-writing the Strategy following a change in consultants, and were successful in preparing the revised draft within a short time frame.
