Last week, members from TBB's Ocean Reef Marina project team headed up to the site to view the progress being made towards the development of this world class marina by DevelopmentWA.
The team, including Karen, Ben and James made the most of the visit – exploring the new breakwaters and taking plenty of photos. It was great to see the marina really starting to take shape. You can almost imagine it now as it will be in few years; a vibrant community on the edge of the Indian Ocean nestled around a world class marina and waterfront attractions.
TBB is the lead planners and urban designers on Ocean Reef Marina, having been involved with for many years from the earliest concepts through to the current implementation stage. Since inception, TBB has been involved in the planning and delivery of Ocean Reef Marina, assisting first the City of Joondalup and now DevelopmentWA in obtaining all relevant planning approvals. Recently TBB obtained subdivision approval for the first single residential lots and several key areas of Public Open Space which will allow the first residents to call Ocean Reef Marina their home. Dwellings are expected to be released around early 2024.
A key component of Ocean Reef Marina masterplan which TBB has prepared is the centrally located town centre which will provide a range of high-quality hospitality venues, high amenity apartments, diverse accommodation options, and a vibrant public open space. DevelopmentWA has commenced an important process to find a master developer to bring this part of Ocean Reef Marina to life in a coordinated manner which will deliver a high quality town centre for residents and visitors to enjoy Ocean Reef Marina - Town Centre Master Developer. The 3ha town centre is estimated to include:
- 520+ dwellings
- 100+ hotel rooms
- Retail, food and beverage between 7,500m2 to 8,600m2
In addition to the core town centre, Ocean Reef Marina will also include the southern marine enterprise area providing a range of facilities intended to maximise access to the water for local residents including the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club.
Another major project milestone was recently announced by the State Government, with an additional funding commitment of $7 million to deliver what will be Perth’s first coastal pool. The increased funding commitment, up to $10 million, will see the pool deck expanded to accommodate larger events, increased shade structures, seating and facilitate the implementation of an architecturally-designed hospitality building. From here the next steps of the project will be the finalisation of detailed Design Guidelines, prepared by TBB on behalf of the State Government. It’s anticipated the guidelines will be released for public comment in early 2023. The Design Guidelines will cover the first stage of the development including the northern residential area and the southern marine enterprise area and will inform the composition and design of development in accordance with the vision of a world class marina. More news updates to come in 2023!
