A Development Plan for the Fishing Boat Harbour to guide the placement and design of new development and significant additions to infrastructure and the public realm

The Goal

The Mid West Ports Authority (MWPA) required a Development Plan for the Fishing Boat Harbour that would guide the placement and design of new development and significant additions to infrastructure and the public realm. The Plan will facilitate the organisation and integration of land uses and the protection and growth of key transport and infrastructure corridors, as well as identifying sustainable long-term expansion options.

Our Role

TBB was selected by the MWPA to lead a multi-disciplinary team and assist the Client in understanding a range of opportunities from various internal departments, each with different priorities and objectives.

TBB facilitated several workshops to extract all ideas from the team and stakeholders, to then work proactively with the Client group to reconcile design ideas and demonstrate the spatial impact of certain investment decisions. TBB’s role included leading the design and strategy for the project, along with leading a team of consultants including coastal engineers, landscape, environmental and civils.

The Outcome

Overall, the Plan contains 16 strategic ‘key changes’ that will transform the FBH into a contemporary, fully serviced, ocean gateway to the Midwest region, providing for international, national, and local trade and tourism needs. To support these strategies for growth, 19 actions have been identified over six phases of implementation, spanning short-, medium- and longer-term timeframes.
The Plan provides flexibility for the future with options for expansion, adaptation and continuing upgrades.
